A SONG DEDICATED TO Dedon Kamathi
(RIP)

lyrics

THE WATER and THE WIND...
(Dedicated to Dedon Kamathi)

Some heroes will be forever unsung
But, I met one, when my consciousness was young
You helped a brotha out , when he wasn’t solid
Guided me on my political path, introduced me to DR. KHALLID

When me and my queen, arrived on the scene
Rocking boots and jeans, looking clean and mean
You told us you dig us doing our thing
And appreciated the things we would rap and sing

You hipped me and taught me about putting in REAL work
Before I ever made my first revolutionary t-shirt
Mr. All African Revolutionary Party
Making sure “What’s Up African?” is how you greeted everybody

The master of research and of organizing
Opening people’s eyes and never compromizing
And I still can’t believe that now you’re gone
But I know your spirit and soul will live on

I’VE GOT TO GIVE YOU TO THE WATER, GIVE YOU TO THE WIND
CAUSE ALL GOOD THINGS COME TO AN END
AND EVEN THOUGH WE LOST A COMRADE AND FRIEND
WE’LL STAY READY FOR THE REVOLUTION AND WILL WIN...

Priceless and powerful, always down to earth
Even when in the sand, ready to surf
Black surfer, when I didn’t know they existed
With Pan African Beach Day, and i was enlisted

It was wet, muggy, cold yet sunny
And I remember the day, it was September 20
You inspired me in ways I could never articulate
Yet, when I went to Venice Beach to truly educate

You were part of the motivation for my poetry and books
Reminding me REVOLUTION IS MORE THAN JUST A LOOK
Always on fire, Always with a flyer
Always involved in an event to take us higher

Always on the radio Every Saturday
Until the Ancestors took you away
But I’m not gonna be sad or let your energy die
I’m gonna keep you in my thoughts and celebrate your life...

I’VE GOT TO GIVE YOU TO THE WATER, GIVE YOU TO THE WIND
CAUSE ALL GOOD THINGS COME TO AN END
AND EVEN THOUGH WE LOST A COMRADE AND FRIEND
WE’LL STAY READY FOR THE REVOLUTION AND WILL WIN...

Now, if a person didn’t know you, they missed out
For, they’ll never know what a true organizer was about
In the tradition of NKRUMA, LUMUMBA and more
It was the freedom of AFRICA, you were truly living for

You taught me how to be hard on my enemy and never let off
While for the same time, for my people have a heart that was soft
And to always be aware of all the politics
Even if some of the methods, I wasn’t down with

You grew in reputation, cause you were a legend
Just knowing you my brotha, was a serious blessing
The last time I saw you, you gave me a smile
And a pound because we hadn’t seen each other in a while

You reminded me to always be a solution
By simply saying “ALWAYS READY FOR THE REVOLUTION”
And I know, like so many, that you will live on
Cause even the univierse cried, through the rain for you DEDON...

I’VE GOT TO GIVE YOU TO THE WATER, GIVE YOU TO THE WIND
CAUSE ALL GOOD THINGS COME TO AN END
AND EVEN THOUGH WE LOST A COMRADE AND FRIEND
WE’LL STAY READY FOR THE REVOLUTION AND WILL WIN...
