So the Mayor Ray became Frederick Douglas

But I know that God looms somewhere up above us
So the people of the South they just had to trust us

And it happened like Bruce Lee, unity kicked in
And we sent clothes, U Haul trucks and dividends
Cause we got offended when we watched CNN
AND SAW THE GOVERNMENT NEGLECTING US DUE TO OUR SKIN

And man, even Congaleeza couldn’t pretend
She didn’t feel our plight was real, deep within
Cause Garvey said he’d be back in a whirlwind
And he’d unite all the boys, girls, women and men


So now the whole world is watching us in suspense
While the situation down south is getting intense
And it took a catastrophe for some to get the hint

The whites were victims, Blacks were thieves
Whites were in need and we were refugees
Whites were surviving, blacks were lootin’
Whites they were saving, blacks they were shootin’

Blatant discrepancies on your T.V.
So we had to all kick in on B.E.T.
We had to scream genocide, cause can’t you see
Their true feelings are being shown globally



And the dirty south truly needed a good rinse
Cause confederates and rednecks still have no sense
The loved us dead, before the civil war and every since
While JIM CROW, still shows so we had to invent

More unity, despite all that we’ve been through
Cause New Orleans is the birthplace and home of the blues
Mardi Gras, Gumbo, Benieghs and JUJU
Spiritual power that’ll see us through, like Eve’s Bayou

Volunteer, there or here, and earn that purple heart
